17TH CENTURY RUSSIAN STROGANOV SCHOOL ICON. Comprising an icon depicting Saints Prokopiy and Ioann of Ustyug, C. 1680. Both Prokopiy and Ioann were given the distinction “Holy fools.” On the left Prokopiy holds a pair of fire pokers held with the heads up therefore foretelling a plenteous year while Ioann holds a scroll. Above them in the clouds is Christ imparting a blessing. On the upper margin is inscribed “The Holy Blessed Prokopiy of Ustyug” and “The Holy Blessed Ioann of Ustyug.” 12 x 10 inches (30.5 x 25.5cm).
