Provenance:
The Lusk family estate. The offered lot purportedly comes through the estate of Samuel Chubbuck (1799-1875) and by descent to Julia Lusk. Helen Chubbuck Lusk built Soderstrom castle in Peoria Heights, Illinois, circa 1892. The family believed the sitters in the portrait to be Arinaldo Samuel Chubbuck (1835-1878) and his brother. Samuel Chubbuck worked directly with Samuel Morse to manufacture early telegraph equipment (among other metal-related inventions) in Utica, NY beginning in 1844. Arinaldo took over his father’s company and is noted as the maker of telegraph sounders.
