FINE JAPANESE CARVED GILT-WOOD & LACQUER SHRINE. Comprising an impressive, finely crafted Japanese carved polychrome, gilt-wood, and lacquer Zushi shrine, late Edo or early Meiji. Of oval rectangular form, the exterior with bronze mounts, the interior of doors finely and extensively painted with scenes of figures on a hillside flanking a portico containing a mountainous setting with five well-carved and polychrome Buddhist deities, as shown. Height 18 inches (45.7cm).
