IMPORTANT TIBETAN GILDED COPPER PLAQUE, 17TH OR 18TH C. Comprising a large and impressive repoussé and chased gilded copper plaque depicting, at center, a figure of the guardian king Vaishravana, shown seated on a snow lion, holding a victory banner and a gem-spouting mongoose, his headdress inlaid with coral and turquoise. Flanked on either side by a retinue of his attendants (generals) on horseback holding weapons and a mongoose, each in an arched reserve, and below, additional attendants. The upper margin depicts a large, imposing, and overhanging apron rendered with the protector deity Kirtimukha. Height 32.75 inches, width 24 inches (83.5 x 61cm).
