SPANISH COLONIAL CARVED FIGURE OF THE YOUNG CHRIST 17TH C. Comprising a large and impressive carved polychrome and gilt wood figure of the Young Christ asleep, probably Portuguese late 17th century, resting on an ornate demilune base with overhanging surfaces supported by carved bracket feet interspaced with carved gilt flower heads centered with pastestones. The figure of the Young Christ depicted sleeping upright, his head resting on his left hand supported by a pillar, beneath his feet winged cherub heads, and behind him a flowering tree form with carved putti, implements of the passion, and terminating with a dove with outstretched wings symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Height 19 inches (48.5cm).

IMPRESSIVE SPANISH COLONIAL DORMITION 18TH C. Comprising a large and impressive carved polychrome gilt wood and silver mounted figural grouping of the Dormition, likely Quito 18th century. Comprising an ornate carved and gilt wood bed. Raised on four cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet with pierce carved skirt and ornate pierce carved headboard with rocaille scrolls centered with an oval mirror. The bed dressed in embroidered silk with lace pillows upon which rests a figure of the Virgin with finely carved and polychrome wood head and hands, her head encircled with a pierced silver repousse and chased halo incorporating a crown and with star terminals, also with silver drop earrings and a silver belt over a heavily brocade embroidered gown with cape and lace collar. Height 27 inches (68.5cm), width 19.5 inches (50cm), length 28 inches (71cm). Lot is accompanied with a custom-made plexiglass dust cover/display case.

The imposing figure carved in full round, of good anatomy and proportions, with deeply carved folds, the surface with estofado decoration and the flesh tones rendered in the encarnación technique. Both heads set with glass eyes and resting on an integral carved oval stepped base. Retaining the majority of polychrome and gilt decoration. Height 38 inches (96.5cm).

SPANISH COLONIAL STYLE CARVED NATIVITY GROUP. Comprising a large and finely carved, polychrome and gilt wood Nativity group, carved in three quarters round, likely Quito. At center the Virgin cradles the new born Christ whose head is set with silver nimbus rays and standing behind them is St. Joseph with silver repousse and chased halo. On the left a kneeling shepherd boy and on the right the three Magi and another shepherd above a carved lamb all adoring the newborn Christ and all resting on an integral carved wood base. The surface with estafado decoration and the flesh tones rendered in the encarnación technique and the heads set with glass eyes. The overall surface exhibiting worming and there is some joint separation and minor losses to some of the finger tips. Height 22 inches (56cm), length 32.5 inches (82.5cm).

FINE SPANISH COLONIAL CARVED SANTO NINO 18TH C. Comprising a finely carved and polychrome figure of the Christ child, probably Quito, Ecuador 18th century. The head, forearms and lower legs of the Christ child realistically carved and finely polychromed. The Christ child wearing an ornate brocade woven robe, the head with human hair wig, crown of thorns with droplets of blood painted on the forehead, and the head further set with glass eyes, on original polychrome wood base. Figures such as the offered lot were often depicted with the Christ child holding a cross over his shoulder and a basket bearing implements of the passion. A finely sculpted figure. Height 24 inches (61cm). The offered lot is accompanied with a custom-made plexiglass dust cover display case.

The carved wood and polychrome figure of the infant Jesus dressed in ornate clothing, the head with human hair and set with glass eyes. His feet with silver sandals and next to him a pair of silver shoes. His head encircled with an ornate silver repousse and chased halo and resting in a cast silver bed with filigree decorated headboard and footboard and with suspension bar displaying various silver charms. The headband chased with a repeating diamond pattern against an engraved ground upon which rests rococo scroll, pierced flower forms centered with crosses with deep repousse and chasing from which rises four repousse and chased floral form brackets attached to a square base with chased border supporting an orb with cross finial.
