Adelbert E. Burdin was born in Elroy, Wisconsin on August 10, 1866. He studied art at the Chicago Art Institute and was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists. An artist by profession he joined the Klondike gold rush in 1898. According to an article in the Watertown Wisconsin News February 2, 1898, Burdin, along with friends, departed for Seattle, Washington where they would then book a steamer bound for Dyea, Alaska. By 1907 he had married and moved to White Bluffs, Washington. In 1912 he moved to Chicago and then later to Rochester New York in 1924. He eventually returned to the state of Washington and died in a car crash in November of 1927. While little is known about his exhibition history, articles suggest he continually painted throughout his life and exhibited his paintings in various venues. Until now little if anything has been published about the artist and his paintings (signed A.E. Burdin) have never been specifically identified to him.
