RUSSIAN ICON CHRIST EMMANUEL C. 1700. A sensitively painted bust image of Christ as a youth. This image takes its name from Isaiah 7:14, "Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel." The depiction of Christ Emmanuel is a representation of the son begotten of the father before all worlds. The panel of double kovcheg design typical of the period. The verso inset with two horizontal splines of the style also indicative of the 17th century. An attractive and appealing image. 12.25 inches x 10.25 inches (31.5 x 26 cm).
