A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON MOSCOW 1908-1917. Comprising a naturally rendered and finely painted image of the Kazan Mother of God. The entire image overlaid with an exceptional multi-piece oklad consisting of a raised heavy shaded enamel frame, a silver filigree riza covering the background, the vestments of the Virgin and infant Christ in ornate gilded silver filigree and their heads encircled with elaborate shaded enamel haloes. Hallmarked Moscow 1908-1917, Cyrillic maker's mark N G, and 84 silver standard. The verso with original velvet covering. Stunning! 10.6 inches x 8.75 inches (27 x 22.5 cm).
