Lot is accompanied with a copy of a letter penned by the artist dated 1939 and written to Peter Cazalet (1907-1973), asking Cazalet to try and get him a sitting with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and going on to explain how in a fit of rage he recently tore up a large number of his drawings which he explains were then pieced back together by his dealer Francis Lenn Taylor (1897-1968).  Cazalet was a noted race horse trainer who trained many horses owned by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.  While Taylor was a successful art dealer both in London and Beverly Hills, he is most known today as being the father of actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011).
