A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT NICHOLAS, 16TH CENTURY, MOSCOW. Here Nicholas is depicted in bust portrait form, his sakkos with cross decorations and collar with gilt embroidery. The omophorion also with gilt decorated crosses. The painted surface in very good condition retaining 95% of the original pigments, and executed on a typical earlier style panel with double raised kovcheg. 11.5 inches x 9.3 inches (29 x 24 cm).
